Dear André,
have same questions / desires concernimg Features / Issues
1. To classify planes after analysis runs I’m changing the names of the planes. During this action sometimes flow5 is ending immediatly the session. Does this happen because I’m to fast or I’m acting „wrong“? I’d not exclude this, but this leads to the problem that flows5 then refuses to open this files. It seems that they are corrupt after this undesired end. In the log-file is a message saying that the last plane name is …. so it seems there is not a valid entry in the file.
How can I recover this files? I’ve a lot of them.

The problem for me is, that FLOW5 stops immediatly the session.
Would you apply a code that would not write the last entry to have at least an uncorrupted file and a litte message for the user that this event happend?
Great would be also a MS-like message: Would you really end this session?
2. When I’m adding analysis runs to existing runs then they are not heritating existing parent settings from earlier runs. Flow5 is now so powerful that many planes could be compared in one run. That leads to the problem that there are a lot of „green“ lines and it seems there is only the manual way to change these properties. For a small number of planes, fine, for a bigger number ….mmm.
3. I created an analysis for thick-surfaces lauched in a batch and desired than to delete them. I could not find a „one click solution“ to delete them all and so a lot of manual work was the only way to erase them.
I know that in this case the problem is located in front of the screen! But..
4. I’m comparing different designs under the same conditions. Creating different plane-designs in reasonable time leads not to the same wing-load or -areas.
Would it be possible to add features like underneath to correct those parameters:
4.1 Analysis run with option „apply desired wingload“ for all or selected planes.
Problem might be to assign CG-position.
I’d place the planes at the desired CG-position: means x=0.
With Ctrl-P a fast correction would be possible.
Or:
4.2 Scale all selected planes to desired wingarea.
4.3 Apply a desired mass to selected planes leads to the same wingload.
Problem might be to assign CG-position.
I’d place the planes at the desired CG-position: means x=0.
With Ctrl-P a fast correction would be possible.
Thanks a lot
Roland

Hi Roland,
1. This is a serious bug which needs to be corrected fast. The goal is that flow5 does not crash. Unfortunately I have not encountered this problem yet so I’ll need your help to identify and correct it. I’ll send you a PM.
2.Not sure that I understand. New analyses and operating point should always inherit the plane’s line style. Isn’t it the case?
3. OK, I’ll try to think of a “Multiple selection” method.
4. Seems difficult, because the UI can only handle one plane at a time. Perhaps in the analysis, in addition to “Use plane inertia” add an option “Set mass to achieve wing load?” But again this is going to be complicated.

I have second thoughts about point 1: the only cause for the project file to get corrupted is if flow5 crashes during a save operation.
So maybe if you have large files and the auto-save activated, it could be that the problem occurs when trying to use the UI at the same time that a background save is taking place.
Could you please try to disable the auto-save and see if it improves the behaviour?

If a crash occurs during save, you may be able to recover the project file in the temp directory with the extension “.fl5.bak”. In Windows the temp directory is usually in C:\Users\your_user\AppData\Local\Temp, or type %TEMP% in a DOS window to get the path.

In the meantime I’ll try to figure out why the crash occurs.
